PURPOSEFUL LIFE
WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE.
When I started this blog last year, I had someone in mind whom I wanted to feature, my grandpa Peter Githinji Munene. I was looking for the opportune time to interview him but God had other plans. It is over three months since grandpa and his sister rested, within a span of 2 days. Their love was an exemplary love that we all marveled about when they were here with us and even death couldn't stop that.
When eulogizing my grandpa, one thing that stood out is his love for the community. Guka was not a politician or a government representative but his villagers saw him as such. This was because he was always at the forefront of championing his people's rights and representing them when need be. His activism life started a long time ago, from being the first catholic catechist in their church to ensuring their village got a hospital.
Grandpa loved family, I think he is the only one who knew each and every person in the family by name. He also championed for education... I would always report to him every end of term updating him on my progress in school. When I went back to school last year, he is among the first people I informed and every call thereafter would be followed with an inquiry about how I was fairing with my studies.
In the three months, I have really been doing an introspection of my life... asking myself what's my purpose, what's my relationship with God, my family, friends, etc. Coincidentally I turned 30 this year and like everybody else, turning 30 sorts of wakes you from slumberland. This is the year when you start looking back at where you are in life and where you want to be...most of us look back at our 20s decisions and vow to make informed ones onwards. There is the pressure exerted by the societal beliefs of where a person should be by 30 and you can be sure I was not exempted.
Grandpa lived a purposeful life and left a legacy that can't be erased. His life has motivated me to live a more purposeful life and focus on the things that matter ie God, Family, and the community. That's the pressure I want...it is not easy but I know it's achievable.I believe we all have a purpose and the main task is to recognize what's it is that we were created to do and live by it.
